1959 Fender Telecaster. Think of Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin and probably the first guitar that comes to mind is a sunburst Les Paul, or maybe that spectacular double-neck. At first, however, he played a Telecaster that he brought with him from The Yardbirds. From Zep's first appearance in 1968 that's immortalised in Jørgen Angel's photos.

The Jimmy Page Danelectro guitar is a special edition model based on the guitar that the Led Zeppelin guitarist used in the 1950s and 60s. The original Danelectro model was a Silvertones model 1448 with a lipstick pickup, which had a distinct sound that Page loved.

It is not known exactly when Jimmy Page started to use the 3021 Danelectro but it seems that it was in 1961. The first picture of him with the guitar is seen in a study session in 1965. In the White Summer studio he had been registered with the Gibson J-200 Flattop, while he used the Danelectro in 1967 on the stage of White Summer.

Page is happy to explain. He stands up, grabs his Danelectro double cut-away 3021—the same one he used in his Led Zeppelin days—and starts chugging away on the classic tune, a highlight of Led Zep's 1975 Physical Graffiti album. Before he starts, however, he explains that "Kashmir" had developed from another song he was working on.
